Dr Catherine Adeya, a renowned expert in technology and development, has taken on a new role as Director of Research at the World Wide Web Foundation. The appointment, announced on August 3, 2020, marks a significant milestone for the organization, which aims to create a web that is safe and empowering for everyone.

Dr Adeya brings over 20 years of experience to the position, having worked in various capacities, including leading the development of the East Africa Centre for Internet Governance and Policy (CIGAP) at Strathmore University in Nairobi. She has also served as the Director of Business Process Outsourcing at the Ministry of ICT in Kenya and as the founder CEO of the Konza Technopolis Development Authority, appointed by former Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki in 2013.

As Director of Research, Dr Adeya will lead a team dedicated to understanding the barriers to achieving the World Wide Web Foundation's vision. She will also sit on the leadership team, playing a critical role in shaping the organization's future direction.

Dr Adeya's appointment has been welcomed by Web Foundation President and CEO Adrian Lovett, who praised her commitment to using technology to drive social change.
