As of today, Nairobi residents will have to use a new payment platform to pay for various services offered by the county, marking the final phase of revenue collection migration from City Hall to Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) through the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).

The new unstructured supplementary service data (USSD) short code, 647#, has replaced the 235# that was in use since June last year when Nairobi County government parted ways with JamboPay.

According to an advert in local dailies, the new short code offers a one-stop platform for all service delivery needs, including property management, land rates payments, market fees payments, and parking fees payments.

Early July, the taxman announced that it is rolling out, in phases, a new revenue collection system for all key revenue streams in Nairobi, incorporating features such as integrated customer touch points including USSD, mobile app, and web portal.
