As international flights resume in Kenya after several months of grounding due to the Covid-19 pandemic, concerns about the country's preparedness to handle the reopening of the aviation passenger business are growing.

One of the key challenges is ensuring the safety of passengers and preventing the spread of the virus, which has already caused significant disruption to global travel.

Travellers will be required to produce Covid-19-free certificates, while other passengers will be quarantined on arrival. However, these measures may not be foolproof, given the unpredictable nature of the virus.

The World Health Organisation has been playing a crucial role in helping countries understand how to effectively deal with the pandemic, including the spread and containment of the disease.

However, Kenya's decision to resume flights has also sparked a new row with Tanzania, which has been excluded from the list of countries from which flights to Kenya have been sanctioned.

Tanzania has responded by banning Kenya Airways flights to its territory, reigniting a previous spat between the two countries over the testing of truck drivers.

The bone of contention is President John Pombe Magufuli's stance on Covid-19, which has been widely criticised as unrealistic and potentially harmful.
