On Sunday evening, a 48-year-old man in Keti Village, Nyang'oma, Kisumu County, allegedly beat his 15-year-old daughter to death after she spent a night away from home.

According to eyewitnesses, the father summoned the two children after they returned home, accusing them of having been with their boyfriends. The children defended themselves, claiming they had been at their aunt's place, but the father would not listen.

Using blunt objects, the father attacked the children until one of the girls lost consciousness. Despite attempts to resuscitate her, the girl died. The father then allegedly hid the body and dug a grave to bury it without the knowledge of the other family members.

Deputy County Commissioner Erick Wanyonyi said law enforcers responded swiftly and arrested the suspect. 'By the time the police officers and the area chief got to his home, the suspect was in the process of burying the deceased daughter,' said Wanyonyi.

The police recovered the body and took it to Ahero Sub County Hospital Mortuary, while the suspect was taken to Chemelil Police Station. The deceased, a Standard Seven pupil at Nyalenya Primary School, sustained serious injuries on the head and abdomen during the ordeal.

Wanyonyi urged parents to find alternative ways of disciplining their children during the school shutdown due to coronavirus. The suspect is expected to face murder charges.
