On May 28, 2020, Miguna Miguna, a Kenyan lawyer, announced the launch of a platform to enable Kenyans to send information anonymously about wrongdoing by public officials.
The move comes after the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Law was used to gag bloggers and youths, leading to the arrest of 'tea master' Edgar Obare, who was charged with exposing private information about Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho and his alleged lover, a YouTuber.
According to Miguna, the platform, called 'Speak Freely,' aims to expose wrongdoers, including those who have grabbed public or private land, stolen private or public property, or abused their power.
He provided Twitter accounts and email addresses for sending information, including @LeaksKenyan, @MigunaMiguna, @KenyanWikiLeaks, and @AfricaWikiLeaks.
Let's Start the Grand March to Freedom, Miguna wrote on Facebook and Twitter, calling on Kenyans to use the platform to expose wrongdoing and bring about freedom.
