AFC Leopards chairman Dan Shikanda is on a mission to turn the club into a corporate entity, breaking away from its traditional football-only focus. This vision, he believes, will ensure the club's financial stability and enable it to compete with top teams in the region.
Shikanda's plan involves partnering with various corporates to secure funding, reducing the club's reliance on a single sponsor. He aims to create a self-sustaining entity that can afford to invest in top talent, including foreign players, and pay them competitive salaries.
During a recent meeting at a Nairobi hotel, Shikanda and his team, including coach Anthony Kimani and captain Robinson Kamura, welcomed Management consultant Eliud Owalo, who donated KES 300,000 to support the team amidst the COVID-19 pandemic's impact on sports.
Owalo offered valuable advice to the team, emphasizing the importance of good governance, embracing change, establishing a secretariat, and optimizing player recruitment and contracting to achieve success.
