Edgar Obare, a well-known Kenyan blogger, has found himself in a difficult situation after being denied bail and forced to spend the weekend in a police cell.
According to his lawyer, Titus Munene Kinyua, Obare was arrested by 10 police officers on Thursday, July 30th, and was subsequently denied release on bail.
As reported by Xtian Dela, a fellow blogger and friend of Obare's, the denial of bail is allegedly due to the interference of a 'big shot' who is trying to teach Obare a lesson.
Obare's lawyer has come out strongly against the arrest, claiming that it was a case of police intimidation and that due process was not followed.
He stated that Obare was forced to sign a search warrant and had his gadgets confiscated, which are essential to his trade as a blogger.
Obare is set to appear in court on Monday, August 3rd, 2020, where he will face charges of exposing private data in contravention of Section 72 of the Data Protection Act.
