Doctors' Union Boss Shares Covid-19 Experience, Warns of Varying Symptoms

On August 2, 2020, Dr Chibanzi Mwachonda, the acting Secretary General of the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU), tested positive for Covid-19. He shared his experience with the public through his Twitter handle, outlining the symptoms he experienced and the supportive treatment he received.

Dr Mwachonda emphasized that some patients may experience mild symptoms, while others may have no symptoms at all. He described the waxing and waning nature of the symptoms, which can cause apprehension. He noted that he was 'quite stable with mild symptoms' and was under self-isolation.

According to Dr Mwachonda, he contracted the virus while dispensing his official duties. He informed his members and the general public of his positive test result, stating that his family was safe and that contact tracing and testing of all close contacts was ongoing.

Some of the symptoms Dr Mwachonda experienced included fatigue, sore throat, muscle aches, coughing, and abdominal discomfort. He also listed some supportive treatment for patients, including paracetamol tabs, Zinc tablets, Vitamin C tablets, Azithromycin tabs, and plenty of hydration.
