On July 31, 2020, Bloomberg reported that Facebook had completed deals to show music videos on its platform, potentially competing with Alphabet's YouTube.

Facebook is expected to partner with Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, and Warner Music Group, which represent some of the biggest names in music, including Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Beyoncé, Mariah Carey, and Alicia Keys.

These deals will give Facebook access to a vast library of music videos, including back catalogues from the three major labels.

Facebook's move to acquire music video rights was first reported by Bloomberg in December 2020, and TechCrunch later said that the platform could launch licensed music videos in the United States in August.
