Kenya's inflation rate has continued to decline, dropping to 4.36 percent in July, the lowest since November 2019, when the coronavirus pandemic hit the economy.
According to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, the consumer price index increased by a mere 0.08 percent from 108.27 in June to 108.35 in July 2020.
While the year-on-year food and non-alcoholic drinks' index increased by 6.62 percent, it dropped by 0.80 percent in the last month.
The housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels' index decreased by 0.36 percent, attributed to lower costs of water vendor services, house maintenance, and some house rents.
However, the transport index registered a 4.01 percent rise, due to a 22.32 percent increase in the pump price of diesel and a 12.21 percent increase in petrol.
