Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) boss Chibanzi Mwachonda has tested positive for coronavirus, the union announced on July 31, 2020.
According to a statement from the union, Dr. Mwachonda is currently in a stable condition and under self-isolation. His family is safe, and contact tracing and testing of all close contacts is ongoing.
"I'm currently in a stable condition and under self-isolation. My family is safe, contact tracing and testing of all close contacts is ongoing," Dr. Mwachonda said.
Dr. Mwachonda emphasized that coronavirus is a comprehensive threat to all Kenyans and urged people not to discriminate against those affected.
He also expressed hope that the high recovery numbers in Kenya will help the country win the battle against coronavirus.
Dr. Mwachonda called on Kenyans to adhere to the Ministry of Health's prevention measures, including wearing face masks, washing hands, and maintaining social distance.
He also urged the government to support frontline workers by providing personal protective equipment (PPEs), welfare packages, and comprehensive medical treatment.
"To my colleagues on the frontline, we soldier on in the service to humanity cognizant of the great risk of infection to all of us," Dr. Mwachonda added.
