On July 31, 2020, the Amani National Congress party leadership in Vihiga county made a significant move by removing Sikalo Ochiel as the chairman of the Vihiga county branch. The decision was supported by MCAs led by Victor Ijaika, who cited Sikalo's alleged misuse of power and failure to uphold the party's ideals.
According to the party officials, Sikalo was accused of using his position to nominate his wife as MCA, which is a clear contravention of Chapter Six of the 2010 Constitution on Leadership and integrity. This move was seen as a major blow to Sikalo's leadership, and he has since vowed to stay put as the ANC branch chairman.
However, the party officials have maintained that they followed the party constitution to relieve Sikalo of his duties as the chairman. They accused him of working with opponents of ANC party supremo, Musalia Mudavadi, and failing to respect the party leadership hierarchy.
Emuhaya MP Omboko Milemba has taken over as the new chairman of the Vihiga county branch of the ANC party. Addressing the press at the party offices located at Chango in Vihiga constituency, Omboko Milemba stated that he is committed to upholding the party's ideals and philosophy.
