Kenya Airways has announced the resumption of international flights from August 1, with a list of 11 countries cleared for travel to Kenya. The Transport CS, James Macharia, outlined the conditions for passengers arriving in the country, including a PCR-based COVID-19 negative certificate and a body temperature not exceeding 37.5 degrees Celsius.
According to CS Macharia, passengers must not have persistent cough, difficulty in breathing, or other flu-like symptoms, and must have been tested 96 hours before travel. The list of allowed countries includes Uganda, South Korea, Ethiopia, Switzerland, Rwanda, Japan, Canada, Namibia, Morocco, and Zimbabwe.
However, Tanzania has been denied entry, despite President Magufuli's claim that his country had healed from coronavirus. Experts have raised concerns that Tanzania may be covering up COVID-19 cases, as the country stopped giving updates on the pandemic.
CS Macharia emphasized that the list of allowed countries will be reviewed regularly, as the COVID-19 situation is not static. Airlines have been advised to ensure that passengers observe health measures against coronavirus before boarding, and drivers of passengers arriving after curfew hours will be required to have evidence of their airport origin.
