Reflections on Life, Art, and Faith

July 31, 2020

Beth Wanjiru Mugo, Vice President for Consumer Banking at SBM Bank, has spent 18 years in the banking sector. However, her true passion lies in art and her faith.

Ms. Mugo, a Business and IT graduate from United States International University—Africa, is a lover of art and a member of the Circle Art Gallery. She teaches children's ministry at Nairobi Chapel, Kiambu road, and finds solace in the simplicity and wisdom of the children's service.

When asked about happiness, Ms. Mugo defines it as a state of mind, a perspective of calmness, and living in a hyper world, it means a semblance of peace, of balancing home and work, and making peace with the choices she has made.

Ms. Mugo's greatest fear is living a meaningless life, and she wishes she knew that her career doesn't and shouldn't define her when she started. She believes that one should be more than just a CEO or a director, and that you are much more than what you do from 8 am to 5 pm.

She is currently re-reading Sunny Bindra's 'The Bigger Deal' and has found it to be a book that puts everything in perspective, especially during the Covid-19 period. She also recommends 'Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less' by Greg McKeown, which teaches one how to spend their time well and how saying 'no' is more important than learning how to say 'yes.'
