On July 30, 2020, UNESCO and StarTimes launched a joint campaign to promote quality and inclusive education and literacy, while tackling the spread of misinformation and disinformation on the COVID-19 pandemic.

As part of UNESCO's efforts to promote freedom of expression and access to information, the campaign aims to empower societies with increased capacities of resilience in the face of 'fake news', including dis- and misinformation that preceded the COVID-19 pandemic.

StarTimes, with its vast online presence and over 10 million followers, has leveraged its network to promote the campaign and encourage participation. The Top 10 winners' videos from the campaign are now available on StarTimes ON, a streaming video app used by over 20 million users across Africa.

According to Luis Lu, Vice President of StarTimes Group, 'To join the campaign against fake news on COVID-19 is part of the long-term collaboration with UNESCO. We hope to further contribute to local cultural development in the near future.'

The COVID-19 pandemic has not only presented a health challenge but also brought potential danger in regular communication due to the distortion of relevant information, affecting mental health.
