Published on July 29, 2020, Dropbox has announced that it will no longer support devices running older versions of Android, specifically Android 5 (Lollipop) and Android 4.4 (KitKat).

The change comes with the release of version v198.2.2 of the Dropbox Android application, which recommends installation on devices running at least Android 6.0 (Marshmallow).

Although Android KitKat and Lollipop have been around for a while, they are now relatively rare, with only 4% and 9% of devices running Android powered by these versions, respectively.

For users still running KitKat or Lollipop, the Dropbox app should continue to work without issues, but they will no longer receive updates or new features. This may be a sign to upgrade to a newer version of Android.
