Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni Undergoes Coronavirus Test After Losing Voice

Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni has been forced to undergo a coronavirus test after losing his voice, sparking fears of a COVID-19 infection.

According to Museveni, 75, he had long meetings and when he lost his voice, his first thought was COVID-19, as he revealed in his most detailed public comment yet on his health at an event to receive his party's nomination ticket to seek reelection in the 2021 presidential polls.

On Sunday morning, Museveni called his doctors, who took samples, and in the evening, they returned with the news that there was no corona. The following day, he attended Cabinet briefly and rested, taking ginger and hoping it would recover.

Uganda has reported more than 1,100 coronavirus cases with two deaths, with the victims being women aged 34 and 80 from eastern Namisindwa district and Kampala respectively.

Mr Museveni cautioned Ugandans against laxity in observing the health measures and guidelines issued by the government to fight the disease, saying the two deaths should serve as a lesson.
