The World Council of Credit Unions (Woccu) delegates voted Kenya as an exceptional member, awarding it the Member Growth Award in a virtual annual general meeting.
George Ototo, the CEO of KUSCCO Limited, was re-elected as a Woccu board member for a two-year term, a testament to his dedication to the growth of cooperative societies in Kenya.
According to Ototo, SACCOs have played a vital role in sustaining the livelihoods of over 14 million Kenyans, enabling them to educate their children, purchase lands, and boost their businesses.
Another notable achievement was recognized by Korea's National Credit Union Federation, which added one million members, representing a 19.8% increase to its existing 6.1 million members.
