Kenyan Students Get 5G Training from Huawei

On July 24, 2020, Huawei Kenya wrapped up a 6-day online training program for over 240 university students from 13 institutions across the country, including the University of Nairobi, JKUAT, Strathmore, and Zetech University.

The training aimed to prepare the country for the adoption of 5G technology, which has the potential to revolutionize various sectors, including manufacturing, transportation, tourism, and entertainment.

According to Huawei, 5G technology can provide high-speed connectivity, enable step-changes in industrial productivity, and create opportunities for new business models and services.

As of 2020, over 80 networks globally had rolled out 5G, reaching 70 million subscribers, twice as fast as 4G achieved.

Trainer Ding Yajie, a global specialist at Huawei, led the training program, which covered topics such as 5G architecture, deployment scenarios, application uses, and challenges.

Students praised the training, citing its interactive nature, engaging videos, and comprehensive coverage of 5G technology.

Evans Kiprotich, a 3rd-year Bsc. Telecommunications and Engineering student at JKUAT, noted that the training helped him understand 5G technology better, particularly its applications in intelligent connected cars.

Other students, including Sylvia Jebet Kipkemoi, also praised the training, highlighting its effectiveness in clarifying 5G deployment, evolution, and applications.

Mr. Samuel Kinuthia, Head Centre for Professional Certifications at Zetech University, noted that the training was beneficial to the university students, equipping them with new concepts and application scenarios of 5G technology.

Dr. Michael W. Kimwele, Director School of Computing and Information Technology (SCIT), Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), expressed gratitude to Huawei for providing the students with an opportunity to undertake the Huawei 5G training.
