On July 23, 2020, the High Court ordered Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa to appear before Kajiado Chief Magistrate to face charges related to a botched car deal.
According to the court order, Barasa is required to appear with his lawyer, John Khaminwa, at 11 am to plead to the charges, which stem from an incident in 2016.
Justice Luka Kimaru, however, barred the police from arresting or detaining Barasa until he appears in court.
Barasa had moved to court seeking bail pending investigations and his planned arrest over the civil case.
He claimed that businessman Irungu John Mwangi, who purchased the vehicle through an agent, had breached their agreement and was seeking to extort a large sum of money from him under the guise of compensation for a non-existent breach of the sale agreement.
Barasa further alleged that Mwangi had used police officers to intimidate and extort him.
