On 20 July 2020, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) revealed the league's fixture list for August, just two weeks before the domestic competition restarts after a five-month suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic.
A rescheduled match between Zamalek and Masry will mark the league's restart on 6 August, while the Cairo derby between Ahly and Zamalek will take place at Cairo Stadium on 22 August.
The EFA had been given the green light by the government to resume football activities in August, despite the objection of a handful of clubs.
These clubs were worried over the spread of the coronavirus and demanded that the EFA call off the season and start a new one in October instead. However, the EFA turned down their request, saying that it is a 'state decision.'
At the time of the announcement, Ahly were leading the league table with 49 points from 17 games, while perennial rivals Zamalek lay fourth with 31 points from 16 games.
