On Sunday, July 19, 2020, American rapper Kanye Omari West, alias Kanye West, launched his presidential campaign with a rally in North Charleston, South Carolina.
During the rally, Kanye addressed voters and outlined some of his agenda, including his stance on abortion. He stated that abortion should remain legalised and that any struggling new mother 'should get a million dollars.'
At one point, the rapper broke into tears as he talked about abortion, revealing that his father wanted his mother to abort him because he was too busy.
'My mother saved my life. There would have been no Kanye West. My father wanted to abort me because my dad was too busy,' Kanye said, wearing a brown security jacket with '2020' shaved into the side of his head.
Despite his emotional speech, some voters remain unsure whether Kanye is serious about running for president or if it's a publicity stunt for one of his music projects.
However, Kanye has already qualified for the presidential ballot in Oklahoma and is expected to have collected 10,000 signatures to be given clearance for South Carolina's presidential ballot by 8am on Monday, July 20.
