On Sunday, July 19, 2020, a group of former civic leaders in Kirinyaga County gathered at a Sagana hotel to express their support for Governor Anne Waiguru.
The leaders, who included former Chairman of the now defunct Kirinyaga County Council, Jeremiah Gateri, and former Sagana Town Council Chairman, Jeremiah Makumi, among others, pleaded with President Uhuru Kenyatta to ignore the moves by the MCAs to send Waiguru home.
According to Gateri, the MCAs were out of order to start collecting signatures to send Waiguru home, especially when the Senate had recommended that the DCI should launch investigations to establish if there were officers in the county linked to the alleged theft of public funds.
The former civic leaders further lauded Waiguru's development achievements, citing the ongoing modern five-storied Kerugoya referral hospital and the construction of the multi-billion Thiba dam, which is expected to be completed next year.
They also expressed concern about the impact of the dissolution of the county government on the common person, who would be left without access to essential services.
