On July 20, 2020, a tragic incident occurred in Wote town, Makueni County, where a 32-year-old man allegedly took his own life at his girlfriend's single-room house.
The incident happened after the man had watched a football match between English Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester United in a FA Cup tie, which Chelsea won 3-1.
According to the girlfriend, she had retired to bed early, leaving the man to watch the match, and woke up at around 4 am to find his body hanging from the roof of the house using his own jacket.
Police took the man's body to the Makueni Referral Hospital mortuary and arrested the girlfriend for further questioning, citing suspicions of foul play.
‘Since it was a single room, this raised suspicions. We have arrested the lady to help in investigations over the boyfriend’s death. If there was foul play, the post-mortem would tell,’ said Makueni Sub-County Police Commander John Maina.
