Senator Johnson Sakaja, a prominent figure in Nairobi politics, has finally surrendered to the authorities after a tense standoff.
According to reports, Sakaja was arrested on July 18, 2020, at a Nairobi nightclub, Ladies Lounge, after he was found to be in violation of the government's curfew order.
He was released on bail the same day and ordered to report back to the police station at 9 pm, but he failed to comply.
Instead, Sakaja went into hiding, sparking a massive manhunt by the police.
However, on July 20, 2020, at 3 am, Sakaja finally surrendered to the police at the Kilimani police station, accompanied by his lawyers.
His surrender comes after a series of failed attempts by the police to reach him through phone calls and visits to his home in Karen.
It is reported that Sakaja was hiding at the home of a high-ranking government official in Karen, where he was being protected from the police.
His arrest and subsequent hiding have sparked widespread controversy, with many questioning the senator's actions and motives.
