On July 19, 2020, Government Spokesman Cyrus Oguna responded to reports claiming he had tested positive for COVID-19.

According to Oguna, he was not admitted to hospital after contracting the virus, but was instead on an out-of-town assignment.

"We have noted reports on social media purporting that I have been admitted in hospital," Oguna said. "I wish to clarify that I am well and just got back from an assignment out of town," he added.

The reports of Oguna testing positive took social media by storm after former director of Digital Communications at State House Dennis Itumbi posted the reports.

Itumbi also shared a screenshot of a local daily that reported two Cabinet Secretaries had tested positive for COVID-19.

"Two CSs have reportedly tested Covid Positive. One allegedly from Nyanza and the other from Rift Valley. Government Spokesman Cyrus Oguna also being reportedly tested positive too. Confirmed: There was no test targeting cabinet," Itumbi stated.
