Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has set the record straight on joining the Kenya African National Union (KANU) party, teaming up with Baringo Senator Gideon Moi.
On July 20, 2020, Kabogo took to social media to dismiss reports that he had decamped to KANU, stating that he left the party in 2002.
"You people are stupid, why are you saying that I have joined KANU. I have been working all day, where did I find the time to join KANU?" Kabogo slammed.
He further asserted that reports and speculation that he had been selected to lead a campaign to revamp and popularize the party in the Mt. Kenya region are false.
"I left KANU in 2002 so you should stop spreading false information, it’s stupid!" Kabogo said.
Reports of the governor joining KANU surfaced on July 19, 2020, after a meeting of KANU officials from the Mt. Kenya region.
John Mukirai, KANU Mt. Kenya Chairman, had disclosed plans to revamp the independence party and popularize it across the region in readiness for the 2022 elections.
