Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has come under intense scrutiny after a string of poor performances, including a recent FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea.
On July 19, 2020, at Wembley Stadium, de Gea committed two howlers that saw Chelsea take a 2-0 lead before Harry Maguire netted an own goal.
Chelsea's Olivier Giroud handed the team the lead moments before the break with a trademark goal at the front of the post, while Mason Mount doubled the advantage at the restart.
De Gea's handling for Mason Mount's second goal was particularly criticized, with many fans calling for his transfer or benching for the rest of the season.
"United need to sell David De Gea. He is so finished," one fan tweeted.
"Drop De Gea for the rest of the season and then sell him," another suggested.
"David De Gea is finished. We need Dean Henderson," a third fan tweeted.
De Gea signed a new lucrative deal with Manchester United just months ago, but his recent performances have left fans increasingly impatient with him.
Despite his past successes, de Gea's decline in the last 18 months has seen him become a target for criticism, with many fans calling for his sale or benching.
