Published on July 20, 2020, a visual investigation by Nyakundi Report uncovered the use of Uighur labor from a contentious government program in China to produce personal protective equipment (P.P.E.) during the pandemic.
Our investigation tracked some of this equipment to the United States and other countries worldwide.
While the Chinese government has been accused of human rights abuses against the Uighur minority, the use of their labor in P.P.E. production raises further concerns about the origin of essential items during the pandemic.
