As the country prepares for the reopening of schools, Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha has revealed that only three teachers training colleges have met the required standards to contain COVID-19. The colleges, which will reopen in September, include Murang'a Teachers Training College, Kericho Teachers Training College, and Asumbi Teachers Training College in Rangwe Sub County, Homa Bay County.

According to Prof. Magoha, the three colleges have put in place the necessary infrastructure recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of Health to slow down the spread of COVID-19. This includes having enough thermoguns and measures to ensure that students maintain social distance.

Prof. Magoha stated that the government will not allow colleges to resume operations in September if they have not fully met the required standards. He also revealed that the government has not cleared any university in the country to reopen, and those that may have declared themselves ready to resume learning are lying to students.

However, Prof. Magoha noted that Strathmore University is trying to meet the requirements set by the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
