On a sunny Sunday afternoon, July 19, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta was spotted driving himself in Nairobi's Central Business District, leaving many in awe.
According to a video obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, the President was seen alighting from his favorite Mercedes G Wagon to wave at the crowd, which went wild at the unusual sighting of the Commander-in-Chief.
As seen in the video, the President made a stop at the Haille Selassie Highway in the CBD, near the Times Tower with the old Kenya Railways Authority (KRA) buildings in sight.
President Kenyatta made a short address before taking the driver's seat, where he continued waving at the crowd, accompanied by his security team.
He was escorted by General Service Unit (GSU) officers, who kept the crowds at bay from getting too close to the President.
It's worth noting that President Kenyatta has, over the recent months, increasingly put his driving skills to the test, driving himself to events and taking high-profile passengers like former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
On Sunday, March 8, 2020, the President drove himself to the Nyayo Stadium for the Beyond Zero Half-Marathon, an initiative led by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta.
On Tuesday, June 2, 2020, CCTV footage shared on social media showed Kenyatta allegedly alighting from a blue car, which many believed to be a Toyota Probox or Sienta.
As seen in the video, the President was wearing a white shirt and a mask, while ODM Leader Raila Odinga alighted from the front passenger's seat wearing a green half-jacket and a mask too.
