Kenyan Actor Charles Bukeko, alias Papa Shirandula, Passes Away

Charles Bukeko, a renowned Kenyan actor and television personality, passed away on Saturday morning at the Karen Hospital in Nairobi. He was 58 years old.

The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has mourned the death of Bukeko, alias Papa Shirandula, who was a beloved figure in the Kenyan entertainment industry.

According to the MCK, Bukeko's charm and wit will be missed on TV screens. His family had earlier announced that he had tested positive for Covid-19.

Many leaders, including President Uhuru Kenyatta, have mourned Bukeko's passing. Burial plans for the late actor are already underway.

Dr. Ezekiel Mutua, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB), has also paid tribute to Bukeko, saying that he deserves a state burial.

"Papa Shirandula brought so much joy and laughter to Kenyan homes without being vulgar," Mutua said. "In his simplicity, he exuded greatness and was a role model to many. What a magnificent soul. We shall miss him!"

July 18, 2020, Dr. Ezekiel Mutua tweeted: "Papa Shirandula deserves a state burial. He epitomizes the best of the entertainment industry. He brought so much joy and laughter to our homes without being vulgar. In his simplicity, he exuded greatness and was a role model to many. What a magnificent soul. We shall miss him!"
