On Saturday, July 18, 2020, Deputy President William Ruto visited his Sugoi farm, where he spent the day with his workers. The visit was a rare glimpse into the Deputy President's humble side, as he mingled with his employees and shared a meal with them.
According to eyewitnesses, Ruto was seen wearing casual attire, including gumboots, a pair of jeans, and a black shirt. He was offered a plate of githeri, which he politely declined, citing that the maize was not fully cooked and the food was over-salted.
"The maize in the githeri is not fully cooked. What happened? No enough firewood?" Ruto asked his cook, who explained that there was no dry firewood available. The Deputy President's comments left his workers in stitches, as they laughed at his reaction to the food.
Despite the initial disappointment with the meal, Ruto continued to eat and even joked about the saltiness of the food. "The salt is too much, but it's ok," he said, as his workers chuckled at his response.
The visit to the Sugoi farm was part of Ruto's efforts to connect with the common man and showcase his humble side. As he eyes the presidency in 2022, the Deputy President has been engaging in various initiatives to win over the hearts of Kenyans, including donating equipment to young entrepreneurs to boost their businesses.
