On July 19, 2020, a public inquest was launched to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of Keroche heiress Tecra Muigai, who died on May 2, 2020, following a tragic accident in a house in which she was living with her boyfriend, Omar Lali.
According to reports, Muigai had deep head injuries from a blunt object, which has raised questions about the official account of her death. The inquest aims to determine whether her death was a murder or an accident.
Two pathologists, Johansen Oduor and Andrew Gachii, have reported that Muigai's injuries were unlikely caused by a single impact, casting doubt on the theory that she died in a fall. The pathologists also found that Muigai had no alcohol content in her system, contradicting earlier reports.
A social justice advocate has questioned the official account of Muigai's death, asking who was drunk on the night if Muigai was not. The advocate also raised questions about what could have happened on the night, given reports that Muigai was planning to end her relationship with Lali.
Lali was previously charged with murder, but was released on May 26 after the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) terminated the case. The ODPP had requested an inquest to find the exact cause of death.
There were also claims of a love triangle involving a Dutch woman, which have emerged to support the murder theory. Lali has five daughters from three marriages, including a Dutch and a British woman.
