On Saturday, police in Ndhiwa, Homa Bay County made a significant bust in the fight against narcotics, arresting a 30-year-old man with bhang worth Sh300,000.
The suspect, identified as Charles Ouma, a resident of Nyatike Sub-county in Migori County, was apprehended near Ongeng' trading centre in Ndhiwa.
According to Ndhiwa Directorate of Criminal Investigations Officer Paul Makonge, Ouma had allegedly ferried the bhang from Nyatike before being nabbed on his way to Rodi Kopany township in Homa Bay.
When confronted by police officers, Ouma attempted to escape into a nearby bush, but the officers thwarted his efforts.
‘He had already cut the rubber band to make it easier to escape on the motorbike but we got hold of him,’ Makonge said.
The suspect was taken to Ndhiwa Police Station, where he will appear in court on Monday.
Police have established a surveillance team to stop peddling narcotics along the Sori-Rodi-Kopany Road, which is commonly used by bhang peddlers from Migori.
