Waluke's Allies Hold Prayers for Convicted MP as Appeal Hearing Looms

Convicted MP John Waluke's allies, including Senator Boni Khalwale, have held prayers for his release as his appeal hearing is set to begin on July 21.

Waluke was convicted of corruption and sentenced to 67 years in prison or pay a fine of over KSh 1 billion.

On Sunday, July 19, a group of Waluke's allies from Western Kenya met at his home in Sirisia to pray for his release.

Senator Boni Khalwale led the group in prayers, saying, "Let us go to Sirisia church for prayers for our brother, Hon. Waluke."

Other leaders who attended the prayers included MPs Benjamin Washiali and Wanyama.

Waluke's lawyers will appear in court on July 21 to file an appeal, arguing that there was a miscarriage of justice in the original verdict.

Waluke is currently being held in a cell at the Industrial Area prison, while his co-accused, Grace Wakhungu, is being held at the Lang'ata Women's Prison.

Waluke's allies are hoping that the appeal will be successful and he will be released from prison.
