On July 19, 2020, several Ruto allies gathered at MP John Waluke's home for prayers ahead of the legislator's appeal on Monday.
Photos shared on social media showed politicians, including former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, kneeling in supplication.
Dr. Boni Khalwale, who was on his way to attend a church service in Sirisia, took a detour to empower a young hustler woman he met along the way, saying 'May God bless and reward the hands of our hustler women in Kenya.'
Earlier in July, MP John Waluke had appealed against his sentencing, where he was jailed for 67 years or an alternative fine of over one billion shillings.
Through his lawyers, Waluke filed a 30-point document detailing what they term as inconsistencies and lack of independence in arriving at the guilty verdict.
Waluke plans to contest the conviction, saying it was based on a defective charge sheet and that critical witnesses were never called to testify in the case.
He also claims that the anti-corruption court failed the test of impartiality and independence, with politics playing a part in the conviction and sentencing.
