On July 17, 2020, the world lost a champion of racial equality and justice with the passing of Congressman John Lewis at the age of 80.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has joined world leaders in mourning the American civil rights crusader, who dedicated his life to the fight for justice and equality.
According to a statement from State House, President Kenyatta wished God's comfort to the family of Congressman Lewis, members of his Democratic Party, and his supporters during this difficult period of grief.
“President Kenyatta wished God’s comfort to the family of the Congressman, members of his Democratic Party and his supporters during this difficult period of grief,” read part of the statement from State House.
Congressman Lewis had a storied career, working closely with Dr Martin Luther King Jr in the 1960s, the high water mark of the civil rights movement in the US. He became a congressman in 1987.
