On July 18, 2020, Nairobi Country Senator Johnson Sakaja was reportedly arrested at 2 a.m. at Lady's Lounge along Denis Prit Road in Kilimani for allegedly flouting government directives to curb the spread of coronavirus.
However, according to Nairobi police boss Philip Ndolo, consultations are ongoing to determine the appropriate action to take against the lawmaker.
‘Sometimes people feel they are above the law, and he should be the last person to contravene that directive,' Ndolo stated.
‘We will consult with others, including his seniors in the Senate and the government,' Ndolo added.
Ndolo also explained that it is not necessary to take everyone arrested to court, citing the example of activists arrested during the saba saba day demonstrations who were not taken to court.
‘Sometimes there are other considerations to be made so as not to give people unnecessary mileage,' Ndolo stated.
