On July 18, Kenya recorded its highest number of new coronavirus infections in a single day, with 688 cases reported.
Among the new cases, 425 were males and 263 were females, with the youngest being 7 months old and the oldest being 95 years.
Health CS Mutahi Kagwe also announced that 450 people had recovered from the respiratory disease, bringing the total number of recoveries to 4,440.
However, the outbreak of the virus in Kiambu County has raised concerns after 20 remandees in Thika and Makongeni police stations tested positive for COVID-19.
According to the Kiambu County Police Commander, the positive cases were confirmed after 68 samples were tested last week.
It is worth noting that 6 police officers within Kiambu County have already tested positive for COVID-19.
As the country continues to grapple with the pandemic, the revelation has sparked fears that the total number of coronavirus infections could be much higher than the reported 18,000 due to the fact that many individuals have not been tested for the virus.
