On July 16, 2020, a disturbing incident occurred at a Covid-19 isolation facility in Busia, Kenya. A prison officer is accused of engaging in a sexual affair with a female remandee who is facing murder charges.
According to Busia County Police Commander John Nyoike, the officer allegedly entered the patient's room and committed the act at around 10:00 pm on Thursday. The officer is also under quarantine within the same facility pending investigations.
Nyoike stated that if the allegations are proved, the officer will be arrested and charged with sexual offences relating to a person in authority as per the Sexual Offences Act 2006.
The incident has sparked concerns about the integrity of police officers, with Nyoike urging them to uphold their professional standards. As public officers, they are expected to maintain the highest level of integrity and avoid engaging in such acts.
