On a day when the world was grappling with the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, Uasin Gishu County Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno flagged off a 16.5-ton food donation to support vulnerable families in the region.
The donation, which was received from Last Resort Foundation, Parklands Mosque and Madrasa Trust through the auspices of Red Cross Kenya, will benefit over 1,000 families in five villages in Uasin Gishu County.
Speaking at the flagging off ceremony at the county headquarters, Chemno thanked the Kenya Red Cross for its continued support to the residents of Uasin Gishu County in the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic.
According to Red Cross North Rift Regional Manager Nicholas Kemboi, the foodstuff comprising cereals, pulses, and washing soap will be distributed to identified households in Kambi Turkana, Kambi Teso, Chebaiywo (Kesses), Kamkunji, and Langas. Each family will receive approximately 16.5 kilograms of the donation.
Chemno also conveyed condolences to the Red Cross Family for the loss of one of their advocates, Paul Birech.
Red Cross Nairobi County Chairman Pallan Lalchand announced that the organization was working on another batch of donations consisting of 2,000 face masks for the vulnerable households as well as food donations to Eldoret Rescue Centre.
