On Friday, July 17, a woman in her 40s was washing clothes outside her house in Mlolongo estate, Machakos county, when she suddenly fell down and lost consciousness.
Her six-year-old son, who was playing nearby, started screaming for help, and neighbours rushed to the scene.
Despite efforts to revive her, the woman was confirmed dead by a medic who was called to attend to her.
Residents of Mlolongo estate were left in shock after the mysterious death, with many speculating that the woman may have been suffering from the coronavirus, unknowingly.
According to a neighbour, the woman had just taken breakfast before she took her dirty linen outside to do some laundry when she fell.
"She had just taken breakfast before she took her dirty linen outside to do some laundry when she fell," the neighbour narrated.
"Her son started screaming and a neighbour went to help. She took him inside the house and called a doctor who confirmed that she had passed on," the neighbour added.
Residents followed the medics carrying the body while screaming and wailing, as seen in a video footage of the incident.
