Thika MP Patrick Wainaina has been at the center of a heated exchange with Kiambu Governor James Nyoro over development in the area.
According to Governor Nyoro, Wainaina's actions are a major obstacle to development in the region.
"We have been hindered by the politics of every other day in other areas. Any leader must put aside their personal interests and work for the people," Governor Nyoro said during a tour of development projects in Thika.
He accused Wainaina and other leaders of encroaching on each other's territories without regard for the consequences.
Wainaina, however, dismissed the governor's accusations, saying he is aware of where he comes from and where he is going.
"I know the work I am doing is understood by many, and that's why the criticisms won't affect me," Wainaina said.
He claimed to have built over 10 bodaboda shelters in the Kiambu area, which has earned him the ire of some leaders.
Calvary Chosen Church pastor David Gakuyo Ngari also weighed in on the issue, advising Wainaina to focus on his duties without being swayed by other leaders.
"Every leader has their own territory to work in, and encroaching on others is a mistake," Pastor Ngari said.
He added that even he is a leader who is expected to serve his congregation, and that's why he is always available to offer guidance and support.
"When people ask who their leader is, I say it's me, and that's why I am always available to serve them," Pastor Ngari said.
He also called on leaders to put aside their differences and work together to serve the people.
"This is a difficult time, and it's good for leaders to come together and work towards a common goal of serving the people," Pastor Ngari said.
