Published on July 18, 2020, a birthday party meant to celebrate Stephen Letoo's son's birthday has turned out to be a COVID-19 hotspot.
According to a source close to the family, several people including Letoo's colleagues from Royal Media services and friends have tested positive for the virus, while others await their results.
The source revealed that a lady who had exhibited symptoms of the disease was among the attendees at Letoo's house. She was the first to undergo a test on Tuesday, July 14, and received her results the following day indicating she had tested positive for the virus.
Following her positive test result, the reporter who attended the party also underwent a test at Nairobi Hospital on Wednesday, July 15, and tested positive for the virus.
The source also stated that Letoo's male friend, who developed fever, sore throat, and fatigue on July 15, 2020, decided to get tested and undertook the test at Mbagathi Hospital. His results came back the following day indicating he had indeed contracted the virus.
The source expressed concern that some attendees had already travelled outside the city, despite being asked to be cautious, and were mingling with other people.
"There are those who have left Nairobi, one is in Kilgoris and the other is on Narok. It is worrying that they are mingling with other people although they have been asked to be cautious," said the source.
The source also revealed that those who attended the birthday party had breached a number of guidelines issued by the government to stop the spread of COVID-19, including having more than 15 attendees and allowing people to walk in and out of the party.
Letoo's male friend has since apologized for going against the guidelines and is now calling on those who attended the party to ensure they get tested and isolate themselves to avoid infecting others.
