Khalwale's High-Speed Escape from Police ¶
Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has once again made headlines for his high-speed escape from police officers. On January 18, 2020, Khalwale outran the officers after he poured water on a police boss who had stopped his rally in Mumias.
According to eyewitnesses, the drama ensued after police officers disrupted Khalwale's meeting with area politicians, prompting him to pour water on the police boss. The officers then stormed the venue, hurling teargas to disperse the gathering.
As the crowd fled and hid in nearby maize plantations, Khalwale engaged the police in a running battle, showcasing his marathon talent. However, he did not last long, and the police eventually caught up with him.
On June 6, 2020, Khalwale had convened a meeting in a bid to talk to his fellow constituents about the adverse effects of COVID-19 on the county residents. He accused the State of doing little during these trying moments, saying, 'I am so angry after I learned that the government intended to take food to Navakholo and not Shinyalu… We can accept that the state brings trucks of relief food to give to politicians who are not close to their constituents.'
He further took a swipe at former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary-General Francis Atwoli, accusing them of dividing Western Kenya.
As the leaders who graced the meeting, including Mumias East Member of Parliament Ben Washiali and Matungu Member of Parliament Justus Murunga, fled and hid in the maize plantations, Khalwale's running battle with the police continued.
