On June 7, Saint P, a renowned music producer, appeared on the popular podcast Cleaning The Airwaves and shared his childhood experiences, including two incidents that led to him being chased from home.
According to Saint P, his father never wanted any of his children to pursue music, which he believes was due to his own negative experiences growing up. This led to Saint P being shunned by his father.
"My father never wanted any of us to pursue music which I think is because of his own experience growing up. So he was never for it," Saint P stated.
Despite his father's disapproval, Saint P had aspirations of becoming an architect, but he was told to start looking for a job after completing his secondary school education. Instead, he began working on music with his friends, who had dreadlocks, which influenced him to adopt the hairstyle as well.
However, his father was not pleased with the company Saint P kept and chased him from the family home, associating them with violent gangs in the area.
After being chased from his home in Mombasa, Saint P went to live with his uncle in Malindi, where he attempted to pursue his dream of drawing houses. During his stay, he would often go to the streets and draw houses on paper, and he also took up construction jobs to make ends meet.
Despite the challenges he faced, Saint P continued to pursue music, recording a few samples with the hope of becoming a rapper. However, his uncle eventually grew tired of the company and chased them out as well.
With nowhere to go, Saint P looked for a job at a restaurant, where he would occasionally work as he had no fixed home.
Saint P also shared the origin of his name, which he stated was due to his ability to offer advice on love matters. "Someone who wanted a girl would come and I advise on what to do to get her. People saw there was a Saint in me because I could tell what was to come and helped many of my friends get ladies and also advised some against," he stated.
