Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been at the center of controversy regarding the Video Assisted Referee (VAR) system. Published on July 18, 2020, Solskjaer has denied claims that the VAR has favored his team this season.
According to statistics, Manchester United have had the most decisions go their way this season courtesy of the VAR. Chelsea boss Frank Lampard was the latest gaffer to claim United have been rather fortunate in match decisions this term.
During a press conference ahead of the FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea, Solskjaer stated that the VAR talks were a 'narrative' built by rivals against his team.
'It looks like there's a narrative, it looks like people want to influence whoever's making the decisions. I hear people talking about luck, that we've been lucky more than unlucky,' Solskjaer said.
He further denied claims that VAR has been favoring his side this season, stating that if a player is offside, they are offside. He also pointed out a crucial VAR decision that went in favor of United against Tottenham in the last minute.
Manchester United currently lie in fifth position, level on points with Leicester City, who face two tricky fixtures to close the season.
