Popular TV Actor Papa Shirandula Dies of COVID-19 ¶
Charles Bukeko, popularly known as Papa Shirandula, a celebrated actor in Kenya, has died of COVID-19 at the age of 58.
According to his brother-in-law Rowland Wanyama, Bukeko fell ill on July 13, a day after he traveled back to Nairobi from Kakamega county.
Wanyama said Bukeko sought medical attention at the hospital where doctors confirmed he had contracted the virus, but he requested to be allowed to self-isolate at home.
However, on July 18, his condition worsened forcing his family to rush him to the hospital, but he succumbed just before he got re-admitted.
President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto have mourned Bukeko, describing him as a towering and talented actor whose electrifying stage performances will not go unnoticed.
"We are heartbroken by the passing of versatile television star Charles Bukeko ‘Papa Shirandula’. Bukeko was a towering, talented and skillful actor. His electrifying and distinctive performances will continue to enlighten and inspire many generations," Ruto mourned.
