Ellen DeGeneres Faces Backlash Over Toxic Work Culture ¶
Published on July 18, 2020
Ellen DeGeneres's 'be kind' mantra has been called into question after former employees of her show came forward with allegations of a toxic work culture.
According to 10 former employees, the 'be kind' mantra only existed when the cameras were rolling, and the host's giving money and helping people on the show was just a choreographed show off.
Some of the former employees claimed they were axed for taking medical leave or bereavement days to attend family funerals, while one black woman alleged she endured racist comments and microaggressions during her 18 months at the show.
Another former employee stated that DeGeneres needed to take responsibility for the toxicity behind the scenes, saying, 'If she wants to have her own show and have her name on the show title, she needs to be more involved to see what is going on.'
DeGeneres has faced backlash over the years for being allegedly cold and unfriendly to employees, fans, and fellow celebrities.
One ex-staffer insisted DeGeneres was not the problem and placed the blame on other show executives.
